On a Wing and a Prayer
/Flashback to 1995. I played the role of an angel in a CTV Saskatoon made for tv Christmas special “On a Wing and a Prayer”. It wasn’t a “religious” movie in any way, but an inspirational feel-good- let’s “get in the Christmas spirit” type movie.
It follows the story of a young man named Stephen Williams who is extremely lonely and is visited by an angel (aka me- hahaha), who gives him a timely word.
Now in 2019, I hadn't watched it since this holiday season. I found the old VCR copy and watched it this year with my husband first and had some good laughs and some tears (I was so young). We then watched with our kids as I gave them a chance to giggle at mom from 1995. Yes, low budget, yes, acting is pretty, Ummm, but the sentiment is special. My baby Jess at the time, 2-year-old Jaclyn and Tim all had a cameo in it too visiting Santa at the midtown mall towards the end!
24 minutes in total without commercials. I filmed this on my iPhone in my living room as it projected onto my old VCR TV that's been dug out from our storage room in the basement all these years.
I’m no angel, nor will I ever be- but I do believe they exist. The word “angel” or “angels” are referenced over 300 times in the Bible. (Not the Hallmark card kind of angels, and I don’t believe people turn into angels when they die.) No, I personally believe God created angels for a purpose and humanity for a purpose. It’s so phenomenal reflecting on the fact that a few months after this movie was aired, I had experienced a profoundly life-changing -supernatural experience with God in January 1996 and did, in fact, hear angels singing and a radiant light that was definitely out of this world (not made by a smokescreen...)
Do you believe angels exist?
God must have a good laugh at our attempts to portray His created spiritual beings like the angels. No attempt of man, no matter what quality of camera, costume or sound effects can even come close to what He has created in the heavenly places to bring order, protection and send timely messages to humanity. Angels are a mystery- but I am so grateful that they exist. I find it fascinating that I played the role of an angel just a few months before I had a spiritual encounter with hearing angels. It was January 1996 wherein the middle of the night I was praying to God and shortly after I made my peace with my Creator, God spoke to my heart and I opened my eyes and seen a brilliant light and heard angels singing above me. I’ve been fascinated on the topic of angels, heaven, prayer and hearing the voice of God since.
I’ve written another blog this week on the topic of angels called “Angels: Reflections on God’s Messengers” Let me know if you go through the 7 part video study that I reference in that blog from the Bible Project producers (or go through the 79-page notes on the topic of “Spiritual Beings”) where I included links on that blog post. (The photo on the right is from late November 1995 when my husband took of me when he brought my youngest daughter Jessica to the CTV studio so I could nurse her during the break-in between filming!) Nursing angels with cardboard wings? Now that’s funny:)
